From watching the movie, Facing the Giants, I wrote an email to a few brothers and sisters in Christ. It is my desire to share with you the hope of Jesus Christ and encourage you to also "face your giants".
To all, my brothers and sisters in Christ,
I love you greatly and ask that you pass this on to those whom I do not have contacts for or are not on this email list.
As far as movies go, I have become less inclined over the last few years to desire to see anything that Hollywood produces. Unfortunately, in this day and age the moral decency of entertainment has all but been destroyed; decaying to the point that Christians are becoming quite desensitized. Along with this sad state of affairs is the fact that there are even “Christian” movies that are falling short of God’s glory. With all of this being said, this email is actually an encouragement, not a fire and brimstone alter-call.
With every scheme of the Devil and effort of the worldly man to eliminate God, we must never forget who God really is. There is nothing greater than God: no power, no creature, no spirit; NOTHING. God is everlasting, almighty, and sovereign. Simply put, He gets what He wants, when He wants it! We must never forget the bewilderment of the disciples in Matthew 19:24-25 when Jesus Christ told them that ”…It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” So amazed were they that concluded upon one question, “Who then can be saved?” We too must marvel at this great mystery of God. Remember John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” It takes simple faith on our part only because God has accomplished the difficult part.
Jesus never neglects us, He never forsakes us, and He will never leave His sheep out in the cold. When we feel lost, we can take comfort, for He knows where we are and He brings us back to Him. When we feel weak, we can take comfort, for He knows our weaknesses and He gives us strength. Most importantly, when we forget who God is He is faithful to remind us, by allowing us to feel lost and weak. God is always there when we reach the end of ourselves. It is then that we look up, and see His open arms that are reaching out to us. We finally realize that He never moved, He never tarried, He never fainted, He was there all along! Christ, seeing their weak and worried hearts, gave His disciples the word of hope in Matthew 19:26, “… With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”
I challenge you to face your "giants”. I encourage you to know that God will be there when you reach the end of yourselves. And I promise that God rewards the faithful.
Heather and I watched the movie Facing the Giants. We were both pleasantly surprised by what we saw and renewed with hope. This is not just another Hollywood production; in fact, Hollywood had nothing to do with it. There are no big name actors, and no fanciful images to dazzle you; just the simple truth of the mystery of God. Watch it, and know that God is working in a world that is falling apart. NOT IF, but when you watch the movie, you must watch the special features as well. The making of the movie reveals the true heart of those who put it together. Notice that God is glorified, He is sought in prayer, and people gave freely of themselves to His service.
Finally, reach out in love to all of those around you. If they are fellow Christians, then give them encouragement. If they are unbelievers, then give them an example to follow and tell them about the gospel of Christ. We will never do any earthly good until we live a heavenly life. God has called you to be an example to the world. Are you prepared this day to follow Him as He desires?
You are all in my prayers, God Bless you and keep you all,
Bobby Quick
